Design of Experiments and Surveys
STAT 310
The course includes two parts, namely design of experiments and surveys.
The first part introduces students to concepts and practice of experimental design. sTopics covered will include: basic concepts of experimental design, analysis of variance, completely randomized design, contrasts, multiple comparisons, randomized complete block design and analysis of variance, Latin square design and analysis of variance, factorial experiments and analysis of variance, interactions, and nested designs.
The second part of this course will focus on survey sampling. Topics covered will include: elements of the sampling problem, simple random sampling, stratified random sampling, ratio, regression, and difference estimation, systematic sampling, cluster sampling, two-stage cluster sampling, estimation of population total, mean, proportion and size, and subpopulation inference. The course will also cover unequal probability sampling, including the Hansen and Hurwitz estimator and the Horvitz-Thompson estimator, etc.
